How to Read Arithmetic in English

Pronouncing Arithmetic is easy, just practice reading.

1.  ( + )   ⟶     Plus (And)  
2.  ( - )    ⟶    Minus (Take away)  
3.  ( x )   ⟶     Multiplied by (Times)  
4.  ( ÷ )   ⟶     Divided by  
5.  ( = )   ⟶      Equals (Is)  
6.  ( . )    ⟶      Point 
7.  ( % )  ⟶     Percent
   

 

For example I will try to pronounce this: (((1 + 6) - 2) x 2) ÷ 2.5=4

• I will say: One plus six minus two multiplied by two divided by two point five equals four.
  

• Or i will say: One and six take away two times two divided by two point five is four.
