It seems that the difference between "there, their and they're" rather complicated, and has a big trio of commonly confused words. All three are pronounced some what the same way, and the spelling differences don't seem to do a good job of keeping people from confusing them.

Theses three words serve many functions.


1. How to use "there"?

(In, at, or to) that place or position, examples:

  3. There is no holy god above.

2. How to use "they're"?

"They're" used to abbreviate "they are", examples:

  • They're reading a book.
  • They're already here!
  • Count not your chickens before they're hatched.
  • They're never alone accompanied by noble thoughts.
  • Do not count your chickens before they're hatched.
  • All things are difficult before they're easy.
  • Benefits please like flowers, while they're fresh.
  • The bigger they're, the harder they fall.
  • The poor are rich when they're satisfied.
  • Fools never know when they're well.

3. How to use "their"?

Used to refer to one person in order to avoid saying "his or her", examples:

  • What colour is their car?
  • She spoke with their father.
  • Men too seldom see their own faults.
  • Quarrels of lovers but renew their love.
  • Coming events cast their shadows before them.
  • Speak of angels and you will hear their wings.
  • Bad workmen often blame their tools.
  • Optimists always picture themselves accomplishing their goals.

  • Experience is the name give their mistakes.
