What makes your hard drive corruption?

Here are the reasons that may cause your hard drive corruption:

  1. File System errors
  2. Read/Write issues
  3. Software bugs
  4. Virus attack
  5. Damaged MBR on the drive
  6. Bad sectors on the hard drive
  7. Poor operating conditions
  8. Power supply and connection
  9. Physical damage
  10. The quality of the hard drive is poor and not genuine
  11. Sometimes overloading causes damages like noticeable slowdown and data loss
  12. Faulty RAM
  13. Overheating

All these common reasons that lead to damage to the hard drive, but do not worry, we will help you solve the problems that you may encounter in this article.

How to scan and repair your hard drive?

You will find much ways that can help you to scan and repair your hard disk, but here are the easy and simple ways:

  • Scan and repair hard drive using custom software
  • Scan and repair hard drive with command prompt (CHKDSK)
  • scan and repair hard drive using disk management

1. Scan and repair hard drive using custom software

The easy way to scan and repair you hard drive by using custom software such as HDD Regenerator. It is a tool that allows you to scan your system and locate bad sectors and reinstall them on your hard drive.

This useful tool helps scan the surface of your hard drive in order to detect bad sectors that make information on your hard drive unreadable. In the event of bad sectors, it may be impossible to recover the information that you have stored on the hard drive, as well as copy it to another location. Eventually, your computer may not boot up properly.

HDD Regenerator can help reverse some of the effects of bad sectors on your hard drive. In some cases, it can fix problem areas so that you can continue operating your computer in the best case scenario. In other cases, HDD Regenerator at least gives you a chance to recover important information before you need to completely replace your hard drive.

HDD Regenerator is useful because it supports many different types of hard drives. The developers claim that it can repair almost 60% of hard drives. While it's not a huge percentage, it's much better than not having any choice at all. The only criticism is that HDD Regenerator can be a bit confusing to operate for users.

Features:

  • It works on several different types of hard drive
  • It does not affect the information on your hard drive
  • Repair damage Low-level disk can't be formatted

2. Scan and repair hard drive with command prompt (CHKDSK)

The best way to keep your HDD in good condition is to use the CHKDSK command utility. This utility scans the hard drive, corrects logical sector errors, marks bad sectors that cannot be fixed, and moves data to safe, healthy places on the hard drive.

It's a handy tool, but it doesn't operate automatically. Also, there are a few things you'll need to do if it gets stuck scanning while you're running it.

The step-by-step process of how to run CHKDSK differs depending on the version of Windows. The utility is primarily meant for PCs with hard disk drives, so if you have a computer with a solid state drive (SSD), CHKDSK isn't necessary. SSDs come with a built-in system to deal with errors.

Hard drives may also get corrupt due to file system errors or bad sectors. You can fix a corrupted hard drive by running the CHKDSK command in Command Prompt.

CHKDSK command with /f and /r attributes may fix the corruption in the hard disk. However, the command scans and marks the bad sectors on the disk, due to which Windows doesn’t read or store data from these sectors, eventually causing data loss

Here are how to run command prompt (CHKDSK) to check for bad sectors and file system errors:

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. To run the check disk utility on a PC with one drive, enter chkdsk. This command only checks your disk for errors; it won't fix any problems it finds.
  3. To fix problems, you must add command switches, which are optional parameters that tell a command-line utility to take an extra step.

For CHKDSK, the switches are "/f" (fix) and "/r" (recover readable information). The full command, then, is: [ C:\chkdsk /f /r ]

Note:

  • The spaces in the command, as these are critical with command line utilities.
  • In the elevated CMD window, type CHKDSK /f/r/D: and hit Enter. (Replace D: with your hard drive partition letters.)

3. scan and repair hard disc using disk management

Sometimes, the hard disk doesn’t show up in the File Explorer. In this scenario, you need to check if the disk is visible in Disk Management.

Here are how to check hard drive using disk management:

1. Start by pressing Windows + X and select Disk Management to open it.

2. Check if you see any drive showing as Unallocated. If there is any ‘Unallocated’ hard disk, right-click on it and select New Simple Volume.

3. Click Next > Next > Assign the following drive letter: and choose any letter from the list. Click Next.

4. Now, see if you can access your hard drive. If you still cannot access your hard drive, you need to format the drive with NTFS file system, which will lead to permanent data loss.

You can choose to 'Don't format this volume'. This procedure will convert the corrupted hard drive to a RAW drive. But don't worry. You can recover data from RAW hard drive using powerful data recovery software.

How to recover data from corrupted hard drive?

The only way you should use for recover you data lost is custom software, but we recommend that "Do not use free software versions" because you often will not be able to successfully restore lost files, images or data.

We will give you tips in order to choose the best software and ensure the recovery of the largest possible amount of lost data your  corrupted data disk as follow:

The software must easily recover data from corrupted hard drive using a reliable data recovery software supports recovery from formatted, corrupted, or RAW hard drives.

The software must quickly scans the drive and locates the missing or lost files.
