Why are web browsers built?

Browsing the web these days can be difficult at times, why not be stressful.

From the beginning of the concept of the Internet, in the 1960s, and all the way up to the present, the growing focus has seen a shift from how do we access something on the web? to how fast and effectively can we access something on the web?

No wonder such decisions also resulted in the requirement for specialized software to do so, even today's browsers.

Distinguishing among an ever-growing set of these applications is becoming increasingly difficult.

1. Google Chrome

Google Chrome compatible with windows, Mac and Linux.

It's hard to beat when it comes to web browsing speed, privacy features, malware detection, add-ons, customization and more.

Google Chrome was developed to be a browser that combines minimal design and cutting edge technology to make the web faster, safer and easier.

Chrome review:

Chrome is and armed Browser with a minimalist design approach, without having to sacrifice essential browsing features, Chrome promises to provide users with efficient and unhindered navigation, with many additional features here and there, to ensure a smooth ride all the way.

Its simplicity is embodied, from the installation, right through to the actual browsing performance.

As cliched as it may be, simplicity is key for most scenarios, and it's quite clear that this aspect factored into Chrome's design.

The last thing you want is an unstructured interface, to distract you from the one thing your browser should allow you to: browse the web without a hitch at all.

There are many basic features that we find essential in any browser and they are commonly found these days.

The developers referring to the use of tabs to control your browsing session and all the benefits associated with it.

However, when going over the basics, one will also be able to find some extra touches, which while not important, can make a difference.

For example, among its many features, one such feature is the dedicated task manager, which can take resource management to a whole new level: the tab level, essentially allowing you to have better control over the application, by previewing, and if Necessary, terminate one or multiple tabs.

Incognito mode, for privacy coverage, powerful package of pre-set Google extensions, as well as detailed customization for most requirements

It would be unfair not to mention the presence of an incognito mode, which while pretty standard these days, is a must

Last but not least, it comes pre-packed with several extensions, such as those that address Office online requirements - Google Docs, Sheets or Google Slides is a smart choice, since there are a number of cases we can think of, which might require their presence.

Therefore, having them installed by default can greatly simplify things.

A strong presence in today's internet browser scene, which lives up to its reputation, by offering simple and reliable performance.

Firefox is a small, fast and very easy-to-use browser that offers many advantages over other web browsers, such as the ability to block pop-ups and tabbed browsing.

Surf the web using one of the world’s leading browsers and enjoy outstanding speed, flawless security, and a sleek design focused on productivity

Mozilla Firefox review:

For a very long time, giant browsers have been jostling for supremacy in the browsing world, and Firefox has its well-deserved share of fans who will always bring up the debate about its outstanding performance and the constant care it has shown over time regarding user needs.

After embarking on a never-ending mission to quench users' thirst for smooth speed, Firefox has been the subject of continuous improvements, culminating with the launch of the Quantum Project, which once again confirmed the browser's maturity.

Firefox entails all the browsing tools any user could need and more.

It is able to open as many tabs as you want without making deductions from speed, and low memory consumption is among the best promises it makes to its users.

This means pages load at lightning speed, so you have instant access to all the websites you want to visit.

In terms of safe browsing, it is certainly not a question of whether it is about being able to surf the Internet through private windows as well as resorting to integrated tools that aim to disable tracking in case you are concerned about the issue.

Regardless, making sure that your browsing history is not available to unauthorized users is an option, and granting the required permissions for the websites you visit to use your location, camera and microphone is entirely up to you.

Needless to say, keeping track of downloads, juggling with bookmarks, and taking screenshots without leaving your browser is possible, which once again proves Firefox's focus on productivity and cooperative work. Moreover, syncing anything ranging from bookmarks to tabs, history, passwords, add-ons, and other settings across multiple devices should help you work without any sort of interruptions, no matter where and when you decide to do so.

Customizing the search options that best cater to your needs should not take more than a couple of seconds, and that includes choosing the default search engine.

Moreover, a wide assortment of customization are available so that the browser's behavior meets each an every expectation you might have, and an overflow menu is there for you to fill with all sorts of items (for instance History, Find, Add-ons, Email Link, etc.).

You use on a daily basis but prefer not to be visible in the toolbar.
When it comes to developers, Firefox greets them with a group of tools specifically designed for them.

To name a few, Toggle Tools, Web Console, Network, Inspector, Performance, Style Editor, Page Source, Web-IDE, Developer Toolbar, and more should ensure they can thoroughly inspect pages, execute code, and more.

What’s for sure is that Firefox is one of the top choices when it comes to browsers, and its commitment to offering a secure, responsive, and why not fashionable environment for users to use has always been shown.

The product keeps on benefiting from constant updates that have managed to turn it into one of the most trust-worthy applications of its kind, and smooth browsing is one of the things it takes most pride in.

3. Microsoft Browser

Microsoft Edge compatible with windows, Mac only.

Microsoft's Chromium-based browser has evolved, built with a brand new engine and sporting a different yet familiar look, while introducing a host of new features along with support for Chrome extensions.

Microsoft Edge review:

Since Mozilla Firefox, followed by Google Chrome, began to lure users away from Internet Explorer, Microsoft is trying to bring them back.

While Edge was an ambitious project, it failed to persuade enough users to return to the default Windows browser.

The reasons for this are varied, but one of the main ones is certainly the Edge-HTML engine used to run it.

After trying to make things work for so long, Microsoft finally gave up and switched to Chromium and its Blink engine.

They assured users that Edge will still look and function more or less the same, but that changes are inevitable.

When coding a website, developers have to make sure that it works in each browser out there, or at least the major ones. The main engines to look out for are Google’s Blink, Mozilla’s Gecko, Apple’s Web-Kit and Microsoft’s Edge-HTML.

With the last on the way out, creating new websites and maintaining compatibility will be that little bit easier.

There are benefits to switching to Blink for Microsoft as well. Implementing new web standards will now be simpler, as everything will be available in the latest Chromium release, presuming it is kept up-to-date by the edge development team.

Most Edge users have never had several complaints about the browser's visual design, and the UI has always been one of its strong suits. It is understandable, therefore, that Microsoft is trying to keep everything much the same in this respect.

The browser isn't going to be 100% identical to its Edge-HTML equivalent, but you won't spot too many differences before accessing its various menus. However, the Chrome-inspired settings page has replaced the old Edge sidebar, which many users will see as an improvement.

If there is an area that still needs some work, it's user personalization.

Aside from toggling the home button and favorites bar, there's not much else that can be changed, apart from the default fonts.

The dark theme, which initially could only be enabled from the edge://flags page, is now an option in the browser's settings.

Edge can either stick to the default system setting or let you choose whichever theme you prefer.

At first glance, the new Edge runs smoothly and pages load rapidly, as expected from the very popular engine.

Essentially, it just feels like Chrome, which is great news for users who are thinking of switching browsers.

While RAM usage varies quite a lot, it appears to be lower than Chrome’s when a large number of tabs are open, and higher when only one or two are active at the same time.

It appears to do better than the old EdgeHTML variant across the board.

However, keep in mind that RAM usage is affected by a number of parameters, so your results may vary.

It is no secret that the Chrome Web Store outshines all other such repositories when it comes to the number of available extends.

If you can't find an add-on here, you are impossible to find it anywhere else.

Naturally, only Chrome-based browsers support these extensions, and Edge is now one of them.

While Microsoft still promotes its property store, users are free to install Chrome extensions as well.

So far, Microsoft's decision to switch to Chrome is looking like a wise one.

The new engine has not changed too much about the browser's design and feel, and it opens a whole new range of possibilities and promises good things for the project's future.

Opera is one of the most popular modern browsers all over the world (together with Firefox, Chrome and Edge), and its reputation has been established across numerous years of research into improving its stability, security and feature-set.

Just like all the other mentioned browsers, you can visit websites, add bookmarks and explore the download history, as well as install extensions, however there are some components that help make Opera stand out.

This is the behavior for the ad blocker and tracker blocker, as they do their job without always showing which data they blocked, yet tech-savvy users can still examine it if they need to.

Avant Browser review:

Avant Browser is a web browser based on Internet Explorer capable of enhancing your browsing experience with the aid of a powerful suite of features and several customization options to play with.

It comes packaged with three built-in rendering engines, namely Trident, Gecko and Webkit, which represent the engines behind Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome.

The best part about this web browser is that you are given the freedom to choose your favorite engine as the default one, resort to another when webpages are not properly loaded, as well as define different rendering engines for each website.

While some big names in the Browsers category, such as Firefox, Chrome and Opera, like to keep it simple when it comes to providing clean browsing sessions, Avant Browser includes some more buttons and features in the GUI.

For quick navigation operations, this web browser comes with support for keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures (e.g. hold the right button then click the left button simultaneously) for performing several actions, such as create a new tab or close all windows.

On the downside, there's no support for pinned tabs, so you cannot have your websites automatically loaded when you open your browser.

Avant Browser offers support for download manager, bookmarks, RSS reader, autofill forms, translation operations using the Google or WorldLingo online translation service, popup and ad blocker, add-ons, as well as video sniffer for downloading clips with just one click.

You may send emails using your desired customer, access your bookmarks with Avant Online Bookmarks Service from multiple devices, work with multiple profiles, back up or restore profiles, and import bookmarks from HTML files, Opera, Chrome or Firefox.

Whenever you want to move on the Internet without leaving any traces behind, you may activate a new private session which automatically deletes history searches and other options when you close the window.

Additionally, you may set up passwords for protecting your autofill forms against unauthorized viewing and delete browsing info, such as typed address, recent pages, auto-complete passwords, cookies, webpage history, temporary Internet files, search keywords, and blocked AD and popup lists.

You can save bandwidth by blocking the download of Flash files with just one easy click, as well as images, videos, sounds and ActiveX components.
